Understanding Alternative Healing Modalities Better

Alternative healing modalities is a branch in medicine that deals with all non-convectional therapies used for the purposes of curing disease. Unlike the convectional means, they do not have concrete scientific backing on their mechanisms of action. In terms of function they can be subdivided into complementary methods which work in conjunction to convectional therapies to enhance the actions of the convectional methods.

Many states are increasing accepting the use of these forms of treatment as an option of convectional therapy. Recent studies in the united states showed that out of every 10 people studied, at least 4 of them use this type of treatment. Some reasons that have lead to such a trend include the globalization effect which has greatly increased sharing of information. Next is frustrations of some convectional modalities that seem to take long to help. Others include the ease of availability and relatively cheaper prices.

This form of treatment is based on firms believes and principles such as the principle of holism where the health of an individual is related to the complete wellness of mind, body and spirit. This means that disease could be as a result of a malfunction in the spirit or mind. The other principle is the believe that the body has the ability to heal itself and treatment should only involve supporting it.

There are about five main group into which all the modalities can be categorized. There is the group of alternative systems which include practices such Ayurveda, acupuncture, homeopathy and chiropractic medicine. In acupuncture, sharp needles are injected to specific points in the body to release unwanted symptoms. Homeopathy deals with the holistic approach of the person while Ayurveda are traditional practices of Indians.

There is also another group that incorporates biological methods. These include use of herbs and herbal products obtained naturally. Specialist are able to identify to specific plants whose parts when taken by the appropriate means will give relief. Other biological means is the use of special diets to control effects of diseases especially diabetes. Another group is body manipulation processes which include massage of the body intended to relief stresses and fatigue.

There are also meditation and progressive relaxation methods that covers practices such as meditation common among Buddhists where the patients try to cleans their minds from all outside thoughts to achieve a form of inner peace that could give solutions to troubles that one may be undergoing. Prayer and having faith in supernatural beings can be considered part of meditation.

The last modality is energy modalities, these are based on the belief that the body contains of energy that is essential to survival and can be influenced into the correct flow in presence of disease. Magnetic fields are commonly applied in this set ups to affect nerve functions.

Although the alternative healing modalities may not be fully understood from a scientific view, they remain to be an essential and useful part in the management of disease processes. Doctors now encourage patient to use them appropriately where they can be accessed.
